Velothi Temple concept art
Some might have spotted my comment in the Alpha 05.9 readme about not being too happy with how the Temple looked, especially seeing how incredibly cool gundalf's tileset turned out. So I thought I'd model a totally new one instead and nix everything about the current Temple. I don't mind that much because I'm going to cut and paste it into a placeholder interior cell and then maybe it'll turn out I can use it elsewhere, like for instance working it into the exterior layout of the Ancient Gate.
So that's why I would like to ask if someone could create a concept art sketch for me to model it from? If it turns out nice - not just the concept, but the model too - perhaps we can use it as the default Temple here and on Vvardenfell. It should preferrably allure to the design Velothi Temples had in TES3 but the thing holding me from modelling an exact replica of it is that I think it would be cool to use a design that has the design elements of Velothi architecture but being more refined in terms of details. Please make the sketch in black and white (or grayscale) with clearly defined edges and contours. A jpeg or zipped bitmap/tga/tiff would work perfectly. That's my only opinion of how the concept should be like, so if you're interested, please let loose your creativity within those broad parameters. =)

my suggestion is...
how about the ones seen on Vvardenfell like in Gnisis and Balmora are the smaller versions... and more refined versions of it can be found on the mainland? so in poorer places or on Vvardenfell mostly the poorer kind is found but in some places grander ones can be found? |

Maybe similar to the High Fane/Ghostgate temple design? (Vvardenfell's High Fane will be bigger than the one in TES3.)

Well, simmelar doesn't have to mean a duplicate, we should try and take architectural inspiration from anywhere we can get it imo. We only have so much material to go on.

Yup. It's all a matter of identifying the design elements. Like thinking, if I take this shape and mold it like that, and then like that, and then do this... will it still look like it belongs to the same culture and style while still looking different? And models like High fane (or Vivec in general) and the Ghostgate settlement can be great sources of inspiration for design elements like that.
I mean the 'normal' Velothi design is just cube houses and sphere domes, and that's fine for the general shapes of the new Temple, but it's too basic to draw design elements for the structure's details from. Vivec / GG has more elaborate details that could be weaved in. Come to think of it, the old Morrowind concept art could be a good source too. They're in the Concept Art gallery in case an interested artist want to check. Arguably they are Velothi in design even if they weren't used, or were used differently, in TES3. Man, I'd love to see Vivec the way it looks in those concepts... the early screenshot with the gondola and hanging banners played a part in getting me hooked on the game
