Methinks the disappearance has something to do with the planet Nirn itself.
By toying with the heart, they were messing with the central power of Red Mountain, a very powerful force on the planet that contained unstable energies. By tampering with it, they could have done something to mess with the energies of Nirn, and thusly it caused the death of the Dwemer. Yagrum however was beyond the planet's reach, As I am 99% sure the outer reaches is in Aurbis away from Nirn. ?(
Lol what?

I like the idea that they (tried) to go to spirits/daedra and escape to Oblivion, but that the gods didn't like them and destroyed/banished them all.

I might dis-agree with that
(the prevention part) If it is the heart, the cause of the dwemer's disappearance, due to some mystical linkage to the plane of Nirn YES I agree If it is punishment by the Gods for their mockery of the patheons then NO But regardless of why or how, the objective is to find reasonable cause to include the dwemer in TES4 Vv and possibly allow Yagrum to be cured of his Corprus I think they are both feasible and do not break lore. Beth Lore states "no living dwemer" except Yagrum So we cure him, allow him to live the remainder of his life healthy, learn from him about his race and the past.... Of course their are no females dwemer, so once he's aged sufficently he can kick it and then their will be NO dwemer Wonder if he could mate with another race and their can be a half breed race Enjoy Bob
