project scope...
Hey I'm new here and have bren looking around the forums a bit. I ran into a map on another section of the website of the other mod on here and thought that it looked fairly big for a completed mod, but then I thought of that compared to the island, and well the island is alot bigger... I mean it took the makers years to make that thing, so I guess I'm wondering what size compared to that other map are you guys... and whether the scope can even work at all, I mean the other one can just remake that map, it's still relativly small compared to the island...

Our map is definitely going to be a lot trickier to make than the others,' not just because of size (Vvardenfell is about twice the size of the combined Blacklight/Reich/Silgrad area) but because we have to duplicate places from the previous game rather than just randomize terrain. On the other hand, our cities should be easier to make because we have set blueprints and the most we can do is embelish them a bit, whereas the other mods have to plan out a lot more for their settlements. The same goes for NPCs. We have to add some personalities, but we could probably even take a lot of those from the Less Generic NPC Project releases.
All things considered, our project has its advantages and disadvantages, but it's still probably going to end up being more work than any of the other Morrowind mods. Personally, I think that the Beyond Cyrodill Argonia and Elswyre mods are the most ambitious, because they're dealing with areas that don't have as much of a set base in lore, locations, or even models (all the Morrowind mods at least have a common model-supply). |

hard in that we have the lore and land set up already... we need to stay like 90% true to it or try to...
but easy in that it HAS BEEN made before and we have a guide.... the Elsewyr and Argonia have it easy in that they are able to make their own land with the limited lore guidelines but HARD in that they are in relatively unchartered territory.... |

Also, we have to plan out perfectly how many cells are going to be taken up by cities, and how many cells to have inbetween Blahblahblah

RE: project scope...
i just don't see how it can be done witht he years it took the pros to create, i mean that island is huge, theres no way that it can be done. There will be problems finishing the entirty of the world, lik ein tr. There will be problems from this feeling that theres lots of space but nothing to do... and i already knew about hte randomizer, don't just assume that because i;m new here i don't know what i'm doing.

Quote:Originally posted by KuKulzA I think he referred to the discussion him and me had in the "Map of Silgrad Tower: Morrowind" thread prior to the start of this thread. He was wondering why Vvardenfell wasn't on the map I posted in that thread and I mentioned to him that the thread was regarding Silgrad Tower's old mod. By the way, on a general note, Silgrad Tower+Blacklight in TES3 was 240 exterior cells while Vvardenfell was closer to 1225. So, in terms of sheer landmass size we really were dwarfed by the island (albeit quite a bit of those 1225 cells were ocean). RE: project scope...
hey metasyn, welcome :bounce:
i'll try to be breif about this and then not post here again afterwards (doubt these guys trust me to meet+greet/QA anymore...) but basically we don't think there wil be to many problems of that nature. And if there end up being more than we anticipate, then we'll cross those bridges when we come to them

RE: project scope...
hey raozrwign, that not cool man. I come here to try an draise important issues that i think could lead to snasg and i instaded of beign returned in kind i recieve a sracastic remark... and as for batman it doesn't help at all say: "we think you're wrong, and i'm not going to return to explain further" All i'm saying is that with so much to do it's just not possible to have the entire island be to the same level as oblivion...

And I'm not sure what you're expecting us to respond. Are you looking for a "You're right! How stupid of us! Let's all go home now?" OK, so you don't think it's feesible; we think it is. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but if we don't give it a shot, nothing's going to get done at all. If nothing else, I think that we'll get some good proto-mods out like Firemoth and Tel Maris (or whatever it ends up being called). And, if we don't get done, I'm pretty sure that we'll get the landmass complete in under three years, and we can always just release that to the community and let others fill it in. Either way, our work here is almost bound to be worth something as long as we keep it up. So, as Razorwing said, you've voiced your doubts, now you can either put them aside and help us get something done or you can leave and check back in a couple of years to see if you were right.
