I'll post my completed and updates for wip models here from now on.
I'll also post ideas I've got so everyone can discuss, and if anyone comes up with a request for me, just let me know.
Recent updates for the palisade tileset can be found here:
[REQ/WIP] Palisade tileset
Now for an idea I have...Since Skyrim is covered with snow, what do you all think about snow mounds?
Now you may say "we can make these mounds with the terrain, but they
wouldn't really be mounds, they'd just be hills with snow on it. My
idea is to have an actual 'snow mound' model, much like a rock except a
lot smoother, and 1 texture (snow). There would also be no collision on
these mounds, or atleast the collision would be placed inside of the
object (no gravity/havok as well). This would allow you to be able to
place the snow mound wherever you like, it'd also allow you to run
through the snow as if it were deep (feet go through it). And with the
collision placed inside of the model, you'd still have the appearance
of walking through the snow, but if the mound is too large, your
character will walk on the collision and go over it (walk up the snow
mound rather than sinking inside of it).
The only fault with this is that since your feet would somewhat go
through the model, it may look glitchy, especially since you don't have
footprints to leave your mark on the ground.
If this is too much description and not enough visual, I'll whip
something up as quick as I can to show you. But if you do understand,
interested in the idea?

Try your idea out, also make an alpha fade-out around the base so it blends in well with the terrain.

I don't believe an alpha will work with this. If I were to make an
alpha around the base, so it'd fade..and you set the model on the
terrain where the alpha 'blends' into the ground, it'd kind of look
like the model was floating rather than blending. That's why I would
suggest just a leveled out base and then strategically place it so it
blends in. Here's some screens..
Now I could try to have a more leveled base (mine still is a little
'bumpy') and have the alpha just around that leveled outter ring, might
still look weird though, but I'll give it a try.
I only made 1 model, both the thin and tall models are the same just
scaled. Since you can scale in the CS, you'd be able to make whatever
size mound you'd see fit.
My first quick model showing collision:
Second model showing a leveled out base:

Cool, these will be great for the wilderness.
Oh, and because you've reminded me about a specific model, could you
please make a Snow mound cave entrance? (like the one in BM)
If you could whip something up, that'd be great.

You all will probably stone me to death because of this but...Oblivion
is the first Elder Scrolls game I've played. :hides:
Besides me shamefully admitting that, of course I can make the cave
entrance. If you want it like the one in BM, can I get a screenshot of
how it looks? Else I'll be blindly making it up as I go.

Well basically it is a mound of snow with an entrance in it. Also it
did also come with a Fur rug door (A Fur rug with a wooden beam at the
top) so if you could make that aswell you'd be a legend

Gotcha, I'll have it some time today hopefully.
And thanks Psychotic.
(And if you haven't figured by now, I found out the problems to my
computer...the power supply, doh! It's too small for all my hardware
stuffed in there, such a noobie mistake. But I've got it worked out,
that's why I've been able to work on things since yesterday, joy!)
Edit 2006.12.13 23:00:
Ice cave:
Hope that's what you were looking for. I couldn't find a fur texture,
so I took the tent texture for the 'rug' which can be replaced once a
fur texture is done.
As for the other models that I've been working on, haven't gotten them
into the game yet because I still have to reinstall 3dmax, the CS, and
well...Oblivion. So it still may be a while before I get all that done,
but who knows.
That ice cave is also sporting a new snow texture I've been fiddling
with. I'm only aware of 1 completely snow texture that oblivion has,
and I dislike it; and I'm not sure if you guys have made your own snow
texture yet, or if you were planning on it. It kind of looks plain
white in that picture up there, but it's got some actual snow detail in
it that I'll have to bring out more. A normal map can enhance that
aswell.

Yeah, I was going for an entirely new snow texture set, but you can of
course mix a new set with an old set. Here's an updated texture version:
The ground is using 2 different textures.
-Just snow, like the one the cave is using
-Dirt&grass with snow, which I just modded a cheydinhal texture.
Also have a 'grass with snow without dirt version' which is also
another modded cheydinhal texture

As for an update, I now have OB and 3dmax installed...but I was having
problems with windows that I couldn't fix so after almost 5 hours of
reformatting, reinstalling windows, and reinstalling all my
software...I noticed that I forgot to backup all the work I've done
thus far for you guys (which luckly I just started last week and isn't
that much). But since I know what needs to be done it shouldn't take
that long to redo. And I should hopefully have it in-game-able (?) by
tomorrow.

Well after modelling all day I got tired of it, so I decided to do some
new landscape textures. These are basic grass, dirt and grass, dirt, as
well as some of the main roadstone textures with snow on them. It's
like a light snow, not too thick where you can't see anything anymore.
These don't overwrite any OB textures.
Comes with texture and normal maps

Yep that's next on my list to redo. Do you want the one mound or do you
want a couple variations? Also, do you want the fur door seperate?

The fur door needs to be seperate, a few variations of the exterior
mound would be good. Also could you make an interior version of the fur
rug aswell? That would come in handy
Also once yor finished there is a few more jobs that need to be done, one being to make Castle Karstaag.

For the interior of the cave entrance, as it would look differnt because of where it is connected to the top of the cave, etc.

You don't really need two versions, one rug was used in BM both for the exterior and interior.

Alright, check to see if all this works.
Download:
http://www.hibirddesign.com/files/MarksWork/Ice_Cave.rar
Has two meshes, cave and fur door. Also has 2 fur textures. One brown
fur, one brown fur with snow on it. Currently the rug has the snow one
enabled, except when I opened it in the CS it didn't show up, so I'm
not sure what that was about...Oh and I haven't made the fur normal map
yet
I'll get the other rug interior door done tomorrow. And any variations that you're interested in.
As for the gate and everything else that's on my list that I've started
and haven't finished yet, always tomorrow as well. Got more than I
thought I would get done today (redid everything I lost and got most in
game). But now I'm burned out for the night, haha.

Models look good, but they are close to black in Nifscope, I think it's
something to do with the mesh shading (I forgot the name of the
technique) it'll probably be the same in-game.

That's how everything has been for me in Nifskope. The wooden fort, the
cave...everything looks black in nifskope except you can see the
texture when you rotate to get the light just right... but it looks
fine in the CS which should hopefully mean it'd look fine in the game.
All the normals on the mesh itself are fine, it's just when it goes into nifskope...

Very strange if it's working fine in the CS...are you sure you didn't have bright light on in the CS when you tested it?

I have whatever comes on when it starts. The only thing I know how to
do in the CS is find my models, throw them in the render view, and move
them around. Passed that, I get lost. But I don't think so, the only
lights were the game lights.

Press "A" to turn from normal light to bright light. Also I do
reccomend you learn some of the CS basics, just so you can appropriatly
place your models, and put them in a scene, etc.
A good place to learn is the CS Wiki.

I do know the basics. As in importing/creating new models and their
info, placing, rotating, scaling models, etc. But npcs I know nothing
about. I did the dungeon tutorial on the wiki way back when it first
came out, that's when I learned the basic controls of the CS.
I've made test areas in the CS to practice with new models but it's in
the Cyrodiil world, don't know how to make a new world space. I've only
connected 1 interior to an exterior house, and that didn't come out too
great.
But I'll take a look at the wiki and browse over some stuff every now and then.
But as for the bright light, it wasn't turned on when I was testing these new models, and I was able to see the texture fine.

Yeah I had a look in the CS aswell and they are fine in the CS...this
is definetly something to post on the Nifscope forums...
Anyway what are you up to now? I'd really like to see you make Castle
Karstaag as it is much needed, and doesn't need interior pieces made
(We'll just re-use the Ice cave pieces).

Got to get the Palisade fort gate (with static opened doors) into the
game. I could do it tonight but the process just takes too long and is
boring, so I'll do it tomorrow when I'm rested.
Uhh...I've had a few requests for other things but I can't remember, I need to write stuff down..or save links..

I believe Psychotic asked you about the Whiterun architecture set, and
I also asked you previously about doing a Easter Island head type thing.
I suggest using note book programs that pop-up when you log on to keep yourslef organised, it's what I use

No new interiors for karstaag? What about the fancy bedroom,
throneroom, and dining room? You'll also need torches, blue fire, and
the chandelier.
