In relation to why the models look black in NifScope, it has to do with the NiMaterialProperty.
When you open the model in NifScope find the NiMaterialProperty under
the NiTriStrips block. Click once on the pallet icon next to the
NiMaterialProperty and a new window will open allowing you to adjust
the ambient color, diffuse color, specular color and emissive color of
the model. On the cave entrance and rug model all those colors were set
to black.
Check how those settings look on a stock OB cave entrance model and set
them up the same way for your models. It's weird that you didn't notice
anything strange on the models in the CS though.
Anyway... good job on the models!

Not the concept art, the actual ingame pieces. I just had another look comparing them in the CS and the're almost identical

That's because the dungeons of Karstaag use Ice Cave pieces...

True, all the remaining interior look unique and can in no way be replaced by ice cave pieces.

Ok, just an update... starting to mess around with the CS a little
more. Pieced together the Palisade walls and I've got some editing to
do. Just a few things that should help when you're ready to us them.
There also seems to be 1 piece missing. Right now you can really only
make a simple box around the city, it's missing like a single platform
corner piece with no spikes if you want to have a more complex wall. So
hold off on the Palisade wall building in the CS for now as the models
will slightly be changed. So when all of those pieces are ready, I'll
include the gate and that'll be done.
As for the ice cave, I redid the fur door a little bit and checked it
in the CS and in game. And the Cave itself isn't working right, as in
the vertex colors aren't showing up right (they look right in Nifskope,
just when brought into the CS it's just all flat. But the fur door
looks fine.

That cave piece is becoming a real pain isn't it
Oh, well, it's good to see your making progress
If you missing that piece why don't you just reflect the corisponding palisade piece in Max?
And have you decided weither or not your going to make Castle Karstaag?

Hey I can make the Castle, it should be fun. I'll add it to my list.
The palisade piece that's missing will be easy to make, it's just a
square platform with no spikes, so I'd just have to delete them off of
it. The corner piece is also weird and doesn't match up with the other
wall piece when you snap it. So I'm going to fix that too.
I'm working on those snow mounds that I mentioned on the first page,
about to see if they actually work in the game how I want them.
Q: can you scale a certain axis in the CS? Rather than scale everything equal?

no sorry, you can only scale the whole model.
And kudos on taking up Castle Karstaag

I started playing around with the glacier idea from another post. Nothing final, just an idea.

I love it! They would be auseume with LOD, and then spreading them out further than the eye can see!
Have you done any work on Castle Karstaag yet?

Thanks guys.
I have not messed with Castle Karstaag yet. I have a problem with
working on too many things at once (or so my former instructors have
told me), so I'm going to try and finish the few things I'm doing now
and then start a new project(s). Even though I seem to add new projects
all the time like the snow mounds and the glaciers now, but they're
small and simple which I am able to pop out pretty quickly.
I've never done LOD so nothing of mine has it...I don't know how to do
it...I'd like to know how to do it though. Is it just an optimized mesh
that you plug into the CS? Because I can make optimized LOD meshes for
everything, but again I'm still learning the whole CS thing.

LOD I belive is just putting it in the same folder with the same name,
but adding _lod or _LOD to the end of the name, sort of like a normal
map of a texture (_n). The LOD mesh has to be very low poly to work,
but don't do it for everything because it strains out the game.

Interesting, cool stuff. I guess it could be done for just the larger glacier?

yeah, also Castle Karstaag will need it aswell, also anything that isabout the size of a large and over, like say a house. However pieces like ruins do not need it because it lowers frame rate and is un-needed.

LOD is just _far on the end of the file name. I learned something new, woohoo.
As for the glacier:
The snow mounds; See how your feet look like they're IN the snow? Comes in 2 sizes, large mound, and thin mound
The Ice Cave.
The inside of the cave, past the fur door, is suppose to be a lot
darker, if not black...but it seems as if the normals, or 'vertex
paint', isn't working right for the snow objects. Even the fur door is
a bit darker than it's suppose to be. Though the fur door looks fine in
Maya, Max, Nifskope, And the CS. While the Cave looks fine in Maya,
Max, and Nifskope...It becomes flat in the CS, much how it looks in
game...quite a conundrum. Oh, and don't mind the 2nd floating fur door,
I wanted to see the other side in game to see if it was just the one
side causing the problem.

I'm currently working on:
~ Fixing the palisade fort which proves to be a bigger pain than expected.
~ Castle Karstaag
Stuff I haven't started yet:
- Finish the Traditional Nordic Architecture Set
- Hut and Tower w/ Ladder
- Longhouses
(Non-Skyrim Related)
- Easter Island head (for TOYB at Elsweyr & Black Marsh/ Actually have started, just haven't messed with recently)
I'm also always messing around with snow textures.

The palisade tileset isn't as important as the castle, so if your
having to many problems with it give it a break for awhile and return
to it, and in the mean time finish work on the Castle.

Got a question about the Castle...
How big is it? Also, how big is that door? in the screenshots it's
either really big and the castle huge, or normal sized and the castle
is small..which isn't likely.
Also is it Ice? Looks kind of dark...like dirty ice or something.

It's ice, but solid ice you can't see through, and it's pretty big,
like the size of a full cell, the door is three people wide and 1.8
people high.

If you could post several pics comparing a normal LC house and an NPC
to the exteriors and interiors of Castle Karstaag it would help
immensely in judging the size of the thing.

It's definitely going in the right direction.
This pic is probably the best reference to base the model on:
According to the picture above the corners need to be a bit wider at
the bottom and the edges of ice coming out of the walls need to be
sharper and more numerous.

Another small update to see if I'm still going in the right direction.
I started a new texture, it's a little darker than the Ice cave
texture, still needs tweaking though. As for the model, started the
side wall carvings. The final won't be mirrored like how it is now. I
just mirrored it as a placeholder so I wouldn't be missing half the
castle.

Yep, looking good.
Though I think that the wall carvings need to have an even sharper edge.
The other thing to add would be those spikes on the roof of the
castle... ok I'll stop talking now, you're the modeler, you know what
you're doing.

The mirroring makes it look a little, off. It's not supposed to look
that even, it's supposed to be a swirling mess of icy spiked chaos.
There is also a useless tower at the top, don't forget about it.

The most important thing for me you could do, would probably be to add
the tower on top (on top at the back, the top is walkable).

I'll need to see screen shots because I have no clue what tower you're talking about and would probably do it wrong.
