I like the piece, the drums being my favourite part. I seem to associate big drums to forests :D

Zenya is up again! Dancing Banana The Great Green lives on!

Check the new pinned thread!

heh - if you like drums then Stomp might fascinate you - its a sort of performance musical playing in London, England

I prefer the 3 'melodic' pieces at the moment. They have some very cleverly inverted and manipulated traditional phrases that give them a freshness!

I want more space and plinking in the dungeon piece and more primitive drums in the Battle piece, with lighter swishh twokking of arrow sounds in the Battle piece too - maybe even a sort of comic puk - like the sound of a missile being pulled out of a cartoon character Wink all sound can be music, it is just a matter of how you do it! :D

Hey aint it great to have our music coming back so we can start to talk anbout it again? The Big Green Bounce

All the links are operational at this time

There is now a second Dungeon piece - Subterra! Suitably plinky for those watery grottoes!

Wow! Subterra Good job! Very dungeony. I have surround sound and when I heard those little critters scrambling about I thought something was in my room! Once again, great work.

Thanks for the comments :) Glad you like Subterra, I'll try and get another dungeon piece done before long with the same kind of style.

I may do a remix/rearrange of Preservation, I really like this piece..but maybe it's a little too epic and modern? I listen to a lot of film scores and this tends to influence my music.

I may run Oblivion later (haven't played it for months), and see how this music feels when a battle starts..

If you want opinions on Battle Music, I think it should be very tribal, meaning drums banging, frantic, confusing etc.

Yeah, the Bosmer are a very strange mix of sophistication and primitiveness - it aint easy to get a line on them.

But there are other races in Valenwood - notably Orcs and Imga and they should also influence the tone.

Damn I wish that old concept of the souldful imga had not disappeared.

Another dungeon piece uploaded - The Restless

I was working on this at 3am last night, headphones on, in a dark room..surprised I didn't cause myself to have nightmares Wink

Hope you like it.

Also Topaz Moon

Topaz Moon is just a simple theme, not sure if it's usuable to you guys or not..was really just an experiment with creating realistic Cello, didn't have Valenwood in mind at the time.

:D Quality. The noises that come on in the middle, very creepy Good job! I don't know because I haven't tried, but it's an important thing to consider about our music as we are building up a bit of a library here, but are they loop-able? And can the pieces of the same genre (e.g. dungeon) run into each other?

I was thinking the we should put Solars music into Windsurfers Islands, what a teaser that would be =)

They should be loopable, they tend to fade in and out at the begining and ends, Jeremy Soule did this with his pieces...and I'm assuming the code inside Oblivion might have a way to crossfade tracks so that they sound seemless..but I'm not totally sure without testing. But since his tracks work fine in game, mine should too.

I tested last night to see if the dungeon music all runs nicely together in a single playlist in Winamp (had crossfading turned on) and they work very nicely :)

Good to know, I always assumed that they ran together well and looped, but asked just to be on the safe side =)

Very Nice, I love your music alot!!

The dungeon is pretty scary imagine walking through the spider tile set I'm making with that playing. Or the Pitch black dundeon with only the luminous plants to light your path.

I Also really ike topaz moon and believe it fits well. Its a nice public piece perfect for walking around the villages.

Would it be possible to try and make another piece like Dragon Fly?

Good exploration music I think?

When I listened to this it reminded me of playing Pirates of the Carribean, the RPG done by Bethesda. Why? because a similar tune came on when I was exploring the islands. This piece seems like it needs a specific region to be played in, and I'm am leaning towards Windsurfers Islands. It's hard to explain why I don't think it is suitable to most of the Valenwood forested areas. I just think that a piece with more mystery surrounding it might better suit a forest. Perhaps someone is thinking the same and can better describe what I have said? It is a great piece of music none the less, and deffinatly an exploration tune Good job!

That's very true of Windy's Islands ... the scale is gentle there = perfect teaser.

However, don't give up on the idea that there may be totally isolated and peaceful areas in Valenwood where this works and also situations within quests?

Really, it is a clear state of mind. Maybe for the more Imperial Northern Borders also? Kind of the difference between the Imperial Villages in Vvardenfell and Ald-Rhun or The Ashlands

I think the next pieces I write, I will try to stay away from prominent melodies and big themes, and try to suggest something more subtle instead..this will make the music easier to find areas for...or I'll be still be writing music for this project in 10 years Wink

Reverie was meant for exploration music..but as happens in a lot of my music, a fairly powerful melody appeared..oops :)

Busy day today unfortunately, so I don't think I will get to start anything.

Also, I listened to Dragonfly last night, and I think this piece could do with a new version/overhaul. There are some things I don't like about this piece now, the guitar is too midi-fied and accurate, so I'd like to reedit this part and bring some dynamics into it.. actually the whole piece. I'd also really love to extend it, to make this a complete, standalone piece of music..But I can't promise that, I had a go once before and it was very difficult to find a bridge after such a powerful melody, but we'll see..

I wonder what you guys think?

So my work plan for now is:

- Revisit Dragonfly and improve upon it (if I can)
- Develop some subtle, fairly abstract pieces for exploration and town ambience (sans strong melodies)
- Rearrange Preservation, specifically the drums and make it sound less modern (already begun on this)
- One or two more dungeon pieces perhaps? I don't think you will need many of these, though I might extend existing ones so they don't switch so often.
- Extend other pieces; Zhenya, Reverie, Topaz Moon and Dragonfly
- More battle music (oh, these are a nightmare Tongue ) for now I'll concentrate on getting Preservation appropriate before attempting others
- Take a vacation

PS. I just listened to Dragonfly once again..then listened to Topaz Moon after, it's amazing that these 2 pieces seem to fit really well together ie Topaz Moon to begin (instead of the rather depressing cello at the begining of Dragonfly) then into the rhythmic guitar part...It's just an idea, but marrying these 2 pieces might work really well...

I said most places, not all.

Your work plan sounds good too Solar. It's definitely concentrating on the application of your music to the mod, which is a good thing Good job! And holidays are always nice :D

Hey guys :)

Been very busy again for a while and every free moment I get I'm practicing piano and other mini music related projects... which has left me no time to compose anything for the last couple of months..

But..I finally got messing around with Dragonfly again last couple of days, I think I mentioned before I was going to re-visit this piece and add Topaz Moon to the begining to create a new, rather more optimistic feel to it. Cleaned up some other bits too, improved the strings, horns, guitar etc. It's all pretty subtle changes really, except the new intro.

Dragonfly Version 2

Well...I hope there's still someone out there :) It seems there haven't been any posts for a long time under Valenwood, so things are just really slow now? or is the project dead?

Hope you guys are all ok :)

Beatiful piece! The guitar in the second theme reminded me of the pianist Einaudi, especially with the sudden change of key at the end.

The first theme is nice in it's relative simplicity and sets up the seconds theme well.

I like how the second theme builds up gradually. It has a rather pensive feel to it, I also feel as if time is passing (like in a film where you see the hero journeying for several days, where you get snippets of him walking in several different areas).

I think the music would work well for the player's arrival at Valenwood, though I know Oblivion handles music in an awkard way, so that could be tricky.

I also think it would make a good explore track.

Edit: I thought I'd mention, it also reminded me of 'The Gallery' by Muse. With one piece you've managed to unintentionally capture the feel of some of my favourite musicians. Good job!

I like it! It definitely sounds more theme-ish, or even cutscene-ish, and a mix of music from games I've played in the past. From Turok, to Body Harvest, to Halo, to even Final Fantasy :p

Hope they can find some use of your talents for the mod. I'm sure you could create some masterpieces for exploring and battling and whatnot, (if they're going to be replaced), or... if they haven't been made already :p
