projection master n ZB is slick. I actually prefer to do most kinds of texturing in PS as I am getting some fast results. I'll use a combo of crazybumb, zbrush/max, and the nvidia plugin to create normals. Oh make sure everyone upgrades to the latest nvidia PS plugin. I had been using at least a 6 month old one and it SUCKED soooooooo bad. the latest ones algorithims or what are vastely improved. it still doesn't hit those low frequencys like crazybumb does. I usually have about 3 normals even for the most basic thing now. at least one regular/noise layer created from the diffuse map(maybe tweaked before the filter is applied. And maybe a different one made from another kind of lcolor ayer, such as a rust or mold) And atleast one low frequency normal with no noise. made from hand painted height maps and/or hugely contrasted difuse map, with blur and surface blur filters to remove/soften the noise. the other kind of normal I've done is a projection from a high poly to the low poly mesh. Good for cloth you sculpted in zbrush or anything really.
Texturing is a rather huge subject. I usually use photo manipulation in PS to create mine. there are things like filterforge and what not. they do pwn. I just rinse the online texture gallerys for stuff over 2kx2k pixels. I use lots of layers, multiply, soft light, overlay are my most commonly use types. Burn/dogde, Texture baking, clone stamp, the shift key, offset filter, noise, loads of stuff.
AM NOT A TEXTURER

Maybe it's intuition

I like it Allot better IMO
But on the blade the dull part that's connecting to the handle is a bit big no? And maybe brighten the metal just a little more ( for the blade ) Everything else is perfect the blade just need a little more ambient light Edit: No offense intended at all but seems like you have problem's with sword blades you're making them a little to thick which makes them seem like a plastic toy (which is good sometimes but not in realistic type stuff) Check this tutorial on making a sword using subdivisions/Nurms in max http://www.enjoycg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=840 (no sound but a great tutorial) (a 30 min sword) |
