Quote:Originally posted by RideWithTheWind I like it a lot! It did seem a bit too bright, but you said it had a specular map and the sunlight was shining on it so I'm sure that would explain the brightness. I dunno if a specular map would fit a paper texture though. If it was a modern poster, definitely, but the backdrop of your poster texture would suggest, at least to me, that it's similar to a canvas. What do you think?

the main thing thats bothering me about that poster is the obvious Papyrus font igh: i think if it used a different font (something either more hand written or more formal) it would look better.
i like: Polo Brush, Duke Plus, AE scrawl, Bailey , and Dad's Recipe among others. these are all from http://www.1001freefonts.com. using different fonts diminishes some of that "photoshoped screenshot" feeling. Mongati HoonDing tiavo; li-mansao einei diang. Cassandra for the memospore era |

Quote:Originally posted by Razorwing Well I might have done a too reflective spec map, it's a 2 minutes fix so it's ok. But I definitely think every texture should have a spec map. Look a the wood beyond my poster, it's hard to believe that a bright sunshine shines on it. They probably omitted it because of time constraints (making a spec map is very fast but making several in-game runs to be sure that the reflexion is ok takes a lot of time). I mean, if you take a stone, some parts of it will react differently to light, so a spec map is needed to tell the texture where to shine and where to absorb. Paper has a kind of absorbant property, so I'll decrease the specularity, but not completely, since it also reacts to lights. This texture must also be placed on a mesh which has alpha property turned on (for the scratches on the edges). Do you have such a low polygon template or should I make it? |

I think that could make a great poster. But you shoud make the letters blending more with the background. I use the Gimp so I cannot really suggest any photoshop setting, however what I'd do: applying a light effect on the letter's layer (so that they color is not evenly black) then I'll apply a backward relief effect (still only on the letters) then a couple of other filters on all layers.
Try not to use a too pronounced canvas effect because it renders better when that effect is applied on the normal map rather than the color map. But keep that effect anyway, just a little less pronounced. That's for the technical point of view. For the artistic part I think it's very nice. The message is maybe a bit provocative though. |
