Joining the Morag Tong

Well, I've finished making all the guildhalls, so I have no excuses left. the player HAS to have some way of joining the Morag Tong eventually.
Oblivioneer wrote an excellent joining quest from a literary standpoint, but unfortunately, I'm not even sure I could go about modding it. There's too much complex scripting, some custom models (hidden doors and such), and it's just so massive and intricate that I'd really like to start with something else as my first Morag Tong quest. Believe me, I'd love to use it, and it would make a great writ for later on, but i'm trying to start out small. So once again, I am going to have to renew my search for an introductory quest for the Morag Tong. I'd really like something creative, but not too difficult from a player standpoint, as well as from a modding standpoint. A note - various skills tests have been discussed, and i'd like to stay away from them. The concept is a good one, but it would be hard to mod, and could be clumsy in-game. I'd like to stick to good old-fashioned writs. What i do need help with is how the writ is introduced. Does the player seek out the Morag Tong? or does the Morag Tong seek out the player? Is it just an ordinary writ? Or is it something with an added twist? Leader of the Morag Tong Hail Mephala

How would the Morag Tong know that you've been part of the Cyrodiil branch of the Dark Brotherhood, let alone its Listener? There could be a way of going through the MT Questline without them even knowing you have affiliations with the DB. Besides, a Morag Tong assassin makes a cameo in the "Mehrunes' Razor" plugin, and he doesn't attack you on sight, even if you are part of the DB.

The Morag Tong have many contacts across Tamriel. MT assassins have been known to travel through several provinces looking for a mark who started running, so it makes sense that they'd have eyes and ears everywhere. Certainly they'd scramble to figure out the top guys of the Dark Brotherhood.
And look at the DB. Lucian Lachance? he lived in a dark fortress ruin thing. If that isn't the most obvious DB hideout ever, i don't know what is. The leader of the DB communes with the night mother each week in the middle of Bravil. If the Morag Tong can't tell that you're part of them, they're blind. It just makes it much easier, and makes much more sense to have a faction restriction. Plus with the whole storyline pitting the DB against the MT. it would just get really really screwy from a storytelling perspective. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Here's an interesting idea for the joining quest: a hostage situation.
Yup, when you join, the guildmaster tells you that he has a special assignment for you. Some poor man's gotten himself kidnapped by bandits, who are demanding a ransom from his wife. She can't pay the ridiculous fees of the bandits, and has turned elsewhere for help. Unfortunately, she can't afford the top-notch assassins of the Morag Tong either. Of course, you aren't a top-notch assassin yet are you? She can pay to have you save her husband. So you sneak in the fort, and kill off the bandits. Just make sure you don't kill the man you're trying to save. And, since the guildmaster's so kind, he's offering a bonus if you can kill the bandit leader first. Also, because the woman who needed her husband saved is poor, your reward will be loot from the fort, and admission into the Morag Tong. What do you guys think of it as an initial quest? I like it
As a added bonus maybe you can offer part of the loot you recovered from the bandits to the woman and her husband or would that be too nice nice Enjoy Diet Dr. Bob

Hmm, how about you have the option to recover an heirloom and give it back to the family. If you do so, they'll give you a nice little enchanted dagger. The quests only get darker from here on, so i see nothing wrong with being nice in the beginning.
we've got plenty of time to turn the player into a hardened assassin . I've already started working on the ESP for this. The hardest part will probably be giving every single member of the Morag Tong dialogue pointing players to Soluthis to join. Because i've become a bit obsessive about dialogue, everyone says something different... i think it's worth it though, just in an attempt to 1-up morrowind: i make tons of dialogue, AND it's all unique  Leader of the Morag Tong Hail Mephala

Sounds good
possibly this dagger could be that special item sorta like the Bal Molagmar Gloves plain and simple yet, when worn everyone recognized their special meaning this dagger could be the same, nothing extra about it with regard to properties, but when the player is wielding it, they are noticed in a special way Enjoy Bob

What do you mean by "noticed"? Basically, what would that effect be (and how would i create it?)
I was thinking that it could simply be some nice simple enchanted ring or something, that either has some nifty scripted effect, or just fortifies some useful attributes. Anyone know if there's a way to make enchanted rings like in Morrowind? where you cast it to activate? Cause it'd be really nifty to make something like a 10-second invisibility spell on the ring. I think it would be a great help to the player, but because it's 10 seconds, and obviously can't be cast many times repeatedly, wouldn't be unbalancing. Also, i've begun planning out the dialogue for the quest. I'm additionally going to need to claim a house for the person who requests the writ, and make a nice little cave for the bandits to be in. Shouldn't take too long, i'll claim them now, and post a neat little separate thread for the quest, since i'm making it. Leader of the Morag Tong Hail Mephala

Since you've decided to create a faction restriction regarding the Dark Brotherhood when it comes to joining the Morag Tong, how about you let NPCs throughout the region who aren't in the MT tell the player about this via "Rumours"? They could say something like, "You can't be a member of the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood at the same time." or, "The Morag Tong are all eyes and ears. They all know who's a member of the Dark Brotherhood."
What do you think of this suggestion? |

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable suggestion. I'll see if i can get it put in as a rumor. Anybody know who's in charge of those? It'd probably also be good to add in a few more misc rumors about the Tong, such as where to be recruited, the mere fact that they exist, etc.
Hadn't thought of that before honestly, thanks. Leader of the Morag Tong Hail Mephala
