Hey everyone,
from what i've learned from bump mapping is that you can really use any type of texture for a bump map. Your original bump map did work if its properties where set properly as a bump map. BUT, since your bump map (purple one) had very similar colour for the high's and low's you couldn't really see much of a difference. There has to be contrasting colours so a very clear difference can be seen. The darker colors will resede or look like their lower and the lighter value will raise or look higher. That is why bump maps are generally made in a grey scale. The contrasting black and white values resede and rise giving a good perceivable difference in the bump.

That's a good way of putting it, SLBuu. I quoted you in the Overview of Mapping Techniques thread.

... and this is why I added a grey bump map afterwards ...
Thanks for the input, SLBuu. Greetings Quentin
That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs, but what a ship is - what the Black Pearl really is - is freedom.

Hey no problem,
im actually a freind of Spoc's, from what i hear he said he has some friends that wants to join your mod team. well im one of them. i just picked up morrowind and started playing it. I know thats not the most ideal way to start learning about a game with so much depth, but ?( If you guys have anything i can read up on about races, myths, factions, history, the story at the end of the game, etc. Just anything i need to know story-wise so it can help me think of some kinda town i can show you. i also picked up the editor manuel off this site which looks really in depth :goodjob: so i'll be reading that as well, and maybe i'll make a small town and get your opinions so i can improve upon it. thx

SLBuu: I'm glad to hear you're interested in modding with our team, and we'd love to have you of course As far as TES3 goes, it's good for reference materials, and playing the game is a great way to get a feel for the Dunmer culture. But modding for it is in my opinion a closed chapter. Oblivion is just a couple of days away and personally I couldn't be more psyched about it
If you'd like to read a bit about the towns in the Silgrad Tower mod then we have some information both on the Maps page on the website and on the Silgrad Lore board here in the forum, so that could get you started, and if you happen to have any specific questions about any of the towns please don't hesitate to ask.
