Quote:Originally posted by Richard I remember there was this mod called "Regulars", I think, that added sitting NPCs to most of the taverns. The problem was that they weren't actually sitting, only using modified pants mesh to simulate it.

No, I love the sitting thing, I was just up for like three days straight so my typing skills aren't the best.

any other common-sense animations missing from oblivion? i'm not sure that npcs can pray at alters (besides just sitting) also, do smiths ever smith? can you ever watch anyone perform their occupation? i think not. perhaps that could be fixed.

Yeah there are a lot of animations missing that would make the game's atmosphere more realistic. Can't think of them all right but I'll try to make a list. I haven't been on as much, lol relationship issues.

I'd like Oblivion to be somewhat like The Settlers (the first one is still one of the best games ever made ) - you could see that a guy is fishing, preparing the wood, baker bakes a bread, other guy goes out of his house and makes a boat from wood elements, other is making tools outside his house, another makes swords and shields... That would be cool to see in Oblivion. Just small space where a person is working on something and IS working, not only looped animation.

Even a large diverse loop would be good. Like a smith, who retrieves a rod of metal, heats it, beats it, heats it more, cools it, (you'd have to research the smithing process) and then finally makes a finished product, which he would then have available to sell. If the things the smith made were varied (ect like 3 different swords, a shield, armor) and the loop took a long enough time, it would be quite realistic. Same thing with something such as fishing, farming, and stuff. Prehaps using part of actors in charge? link together animations properly and you don't have to make your own

Well wouldn't you just be able to route the character to use whatever animation at whatever time somehow? Since each of the animations is a seperate file you would just need to tell the units to use a different animation and then I'm sure there is some way to make a command to tell it when to start the animation and when to stop.

A better way would be to make a bunch of single animations and use AI scripting to get a random effect to what the npc is doing.
smelting hammering grinding combining ...... .... .. then you set up x markers for where you want any of these tasks to take place and tweak the AI to randomly or linearly go through the steps. it would be very easy to do the anims and create any needed meshes - I would imagine at least one of every type of trade per city so as not to bloat the workload to much. its an interesting idea.. |
