I bet any wooden fence is likely to look like or remind you of something you saw in real life or in Oblivion or in another fantasy game, just because it's so generic. Personally I don't think the practice of using wood for barricades can be tied to a specific culture. TID is spot-on concerning the arched fence, as I bet the creator intended it to be contemporary, but one could look at it from another viewpoint and think the arched shape ties in with the arches in Redoran design elements. Sure, it's pure luck that it does, but I guess it plays into the way the viewer percieves something. But really, I'm content with just the facts that it looks good and looks different from the other parts of town.
