(My quad-monthly check up on how the mod is going.)
From the way I interpreted it from the lore - Moonsugar is actually created from the moon in a roundabout way. The moons themselves are sources of magic (hence how they affect Khajiit birthing cycles), and the light of the moons falls into the water, which washes into the marshlands of southern Elsweyr and is absorbed into the sugarcane there. In a magic filled world it makes a little more sense if you think of it like radiation. The moons "irradiate" the water, and the reeds absorb this modified water. In the real world they would kill you, but the moons are radiating magic, so it's all good. Pretty simple, in fact I think it was explicitly written somewhere, but I can't be sure anymore. Most of my time with the mod was spent trying to organize how the landmass was set up, because even Bethesda themselves contradict their lore in several areas. The trial of combining what we know of all the games into a reality that makes sense, especially with inconsistencies caused by the Dragon Break, caused me to try and form a coherent vision from reading lots and lots (and lots) of lore. I spent weeks reading various sources late into the night, it was pretty horrible. I do remember the process that created Moonsugar, atleast by my own interpretation, however. |

PGEv1 Elsweyr:
The khajiit also believe that their gods regularly bestow blessings to their chosen people, in the form of the moon-sugar, a substance native to the Tenmar Forest in southern Elsweyr. This sugar has a variety of uses; it is alternately a seasoning and a magical ingredient, a source of communion with the holy moons and a dangerous and addictive drug. The khajiit understand it to be "crystallized moonlight," caught in the water of the Topal Sea and brought to the sugarcane groves of the Tenmar by the force of the twin tides. Thats the exact quote

hh: you're giving all our secrets away to the slavers of Morrowind. The true sugar shall not be blasphemed. All of the faithful shall descend upon any who dare to attempt to defile the source and my friends up there will chuck a real moon upon their heads (not some pokey little prison either) so there!
btw Krisi, would you like to enter that delicious little tidbit along with its provenance into the approved Literature - it's perfect.
Because loyalty is not to be spoken of and honour is to be endured. Whilst courage is to be survived. These virtues belong to silence.
