I think it would be best to go with highland cattle, as they do
actually exist in the real world and they also exist in areas the
vikings at one point controlled.

What exactly is wrong with riding yaks? It's done IRL... And I can't
imagine it being a bad thing to have more options than horses.

Just because other people do, doesn't mean we have to
Would you jump off a cliff if everyone else was?
Also there would be no point in riding them, as they would be a lot slower than horses.

There could be benefits. Frost resistance, going where horses can not (high mountain regions <-this can be scripted I think).

TYOB, why does it seem like you exist solely to shoot down every single idea put forth for the project? :\

He is trying to keep ideas good by shooting them down and testing how good they are..
but I like the Idea of riding yaks but there are other things to consern about first.

It'd add a lot of atmosphere/realism, and that's something that
Oblivion sorta lacked. I can't see any problem with it. Of course, it
isn't a top priority sort of thing, but there's no point in not having
it.

TOYB is just trying to keep everything in line, so we don't go putting flying beavers and undead clowns in-game.

What's wrong with flying beavers?
Beavers are so underepresented these days
I think a yak is a good idea, personally. Adds some variety rather than just horses like in vanila Obliivion.

BRING ON THE FLYING BEAVERS!!! why not make them daedric
?
Yea, I agree with Smokindan, I think Yaks are a good Idea, and I think
Pc's and Npc's should be able to ride them. Although they go a lot
Slower than horses, give them more Positive attributes (I.e. They do
more damage in combat than a horse? I'm not sure, I've never seen a Yak
fight) Though I'm sure they could deal some serious Damage!
Btw, Are there Going to be some kind of Frost Giants on here? I saw
someone post about them earlier in this thread, but I don't think
anybody agreed on wether to incorparate them...

Yea there should, but I have NO idea on the lore of Giants, so would
they be found by themselves somewhere in the mountains (or wherever),
or would there be maybe 2 or 3 of them?

Well, solstheim was too cold for slaughterfish wasn't it? I'd presume
Skyrim wouldn't have any either, of any sort... But we gotta have
horkers. Horkers were great.

Howabout reindeer that fly, but they only do it if you wear a red suit and your belly shakes like a bowl full of jelly?

A new name would be OK if it were cooler than "Yak" which is really pretty hard to beat
TOYB, just picture a Skyrim trailer with a huge Nord warrior decked out
in fury spiked armor with animal bones on it thundering through the
remote mountain wilderness on a Yak. |

Or flying over the mountaintops with his tummy wiggling more than even the most disasterous Havoc physics glitch.

Let's see the TYOB tell us he can't see a nordic warrior riding down
the mountainside on one of those... Speaking of which, our battle-music
should be black metal.

Fine I will allow my defenses to be breached and say that having them is ok, although you must agree to these conditions.
1, They must be called Highland Cattle
2, They can be ridable, but that doesn't mean everyone can ride them, and the majority of Npcs should still ride horses.

Come up with a unique Nord name for them, if we're not going to call
them Yak for the sake of being original we might as well be Nordic
about it. They shouldn't be used more than Horses, generally they are
beasts up burden and cattle, but in the freezing parts of Skyrim where
Horses don't fare well they are the transportation of choice. |

one fish below:
Merringar
Fairly recently, in northern Skyrim, I had a bit of bad luck. I was
with a group of fishermen, observing their technique of capturing a
very rare, very delicious fish called Merringar. The fish is found only
far from shore, so it was a week's voyage out beyond civilization.
Well, we found our school of Merringar, but as the fishermen began
spearing them, the blood in the water attracted a family of Dreugh, who
capsized the boat and everyone on it. I managed to save myself, but the
fishermen and all our supplies were lost. Sailing is not, alas, a skill
I have picked up over the years, and it took me three weeks, with no
provisions, to find my way back to the kingdom of Solitude. I had
managed to catch enough small fish to eat raw, but I was still
delirious from hunger and thirst. The first meal I had on shore, of
Nordic roast boar, Jazbay wine, and, yes, filet of Merringar would have
been excellent under any circumstances, but because of the threat of
starvation I had faced, it was divine beyond words. From "The Red
Kitchen Reader"
