Yes, I am afraid that they may be falling into the "give the majority what they want" rut. Majority being those people who are not hardcore RP players, but pull it of the shelves becasue they can "go anywhere??!?" "Kill ANYBODY??!!!) Oh goody!

TES is about, and shall always be about, what the TES are about. Oblivion is what it is, like or not, and it may be different but it's a great game. All the lore is present eslewhere, and they were trying something new, and you can bet th epossative here will be incorporated in later products. Bethesda made a phenomenal game and it has pleased a huge market, I do not criticize their decisions, for this is a Bethesda game.

They were trying something all the mainstream game producers were doing. Everything in Oblivion has been done before. Graphics? Um... every recent game... AI? "RAI" is basically a flashy name for NPC scheduling, which has been done many times. Combat? Done better by many other games. |

Don't generalize gamers, I myself am a purist to be honest, love a straightforward rpg, but TES wouldn't be the great thing that it is if it didn't experiment with innovation.

hehehe, I agree, but my last point is, mixing both old and new IS inovation. About the .esp thing, that was just short sighted and silly of bethesda.

back to the point:
Aren't there custom made programs that can merge esp's? Because only Reich Parkeep ain't going to be 20 meg's right?

Even if this 20Mb thing is true (which I highly doubt, I think the guy just had a crappy PC) What's the problem?
Just make each space an esp, if it is about to break the 20Mb mark, start a second Esp. What's wrong with having two 19.95Mb esps? And lets not forget, ST on morrowind was only 26 Mbs (36 when merged with blacklight) and that took a long time to make, you won't have to worry about the 20 mb thing for a long time. Plus there are already 20mb+ mods out there, this Rumor is BS, there is no 20Mb limit.

Crappy PC?
3.0 Ghz HT Pentium4 CPU. 3.0 Gb Corsair Ram Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX PC Specs are not an issue here, my CPU usage never goes over 50% nor my RAM over 1gb when working with the CS. It is purely a software issue. ""What's wrong with having two 19.95Mb esps?"" Dont you know that ESPS cannot interact or read eachother in Oblivion? No offense, but you do not know what you are talking about. This is not Morrowind. I have come to believe that the issue is not a MB limit, but a record limit. After attempting to continue working on my project with all previous work on an ESM and newer additions on an ESP, the limit was once again reached but in half the filezise. First, I built a large city by hand, with NPCs, Items, Scripts and Ai Packages which makes up a large amount of the Mods size, then I began working on teh world around that. And after Heightmapping and finaally generating the regions themselves I first encountered the problem. The size was 20Mb at the time I first got the "We are sorry for any inconvenice but we must close," Error being from the TESCS.exe and not any windows or hardware component ((For instance alot of people have Oblivion crash, but their Sound card is to blame, This is not the case here)). The Split Infinity team has also encountered these limits and are also without a work around. When the limit is reached trying to add anything to the Plug In will Crash the CS. Multiple ESps is not a possibility since Oblivion Esps may not interact or read eachother. The only possibility would be Merge to Master, Which Bethesda disabled on our CSs (Yet they still claim this is the same CS they used to make the game). The third party utility 'Tes4plugin.jar' by Scripter Ron can mergwe to master, except only very small files and I quote him "It was not designed for and will not work with Large plug-in files"

I've yet to see any proof from you, I very much doubt what you are saying. How about you upload that mod so we can see what's wrong with it? I myself once accidentally made my Sutch Reborn mod edit every single cell in the tamriel worldspace - and add roughly 500 cells in the hammerfell direction, changing every single record in each one by moving the border region into hammerfell, it slowed my PC down, but it didn't crash, and that mod was huge.
