then again, for small towns, its supposed to be like that.... raiders and outlaws will prey on these villages and such... that's why the local ruler has got to have troops around to stop the bad guys and outlaws and bandits from raiding little towns with no walls... or like Caldera or Hla Oad or Khuul, small, not well defended towns

If its a good town that has a door that opens ingame, and their getting attacked or someones stealing, They can lock the gate either way. There is no reason to make towns interior. Maybe performance but I doubt it would perform that much better. Since Cloud Ruler temple doesn't perform badly and I'm pretty sure that exterior, if it isn't atleast the doors open realisticly Making a town an exterior would not make the walls vanish out of thin air. How would they walk through there walls? The very beginning ov you're post doesn't make sense. What also had lag? And what is a hug consent? EDIT: Kukulza's right, some small towns don't have walls anyway. |

Why do they have to be interiors? Gates that just swing open (For house wars and defense) Can be added and locked on an exterior. There is no adavntage I know that makes making towns interior better than them being exteriors. Its actually better for them to be exteriors.

because than, to transfer from town to outside you have to load. And when there are wars and they can't bust open the door, or try to defend there gate as enemies rush in.
And if its interior the only way to get in is the gate, you can't jump down or over the wall to get in. Like if you're an archer you can climb down the laddder if you're out of arrows, or if you're invading a town you can climb the wall somehow (Ladders) and invade that way while they try to get through the wall. Those are just examples, but there are more that I haven't thought of. |

I think what X23 mentioned was originally my idea.
This is what i posted in the "How about we create morrowind" topic: If we really need a gate couldn't you make it in the exterior? As in you actually see it swing open, you walk in the city with no loading, then a guard closes it? Exterior cities all the way. It was one of the things that made Morrowind more immersive than oblivion. /endquote Exterior cities are one of the stupidest things in oblivion. If we leave them out we can have levitation. IMO, Exterior cities were just a quick way for developers to get things done. They didn't want to make an animation of the gates closing and opening. It probably made cities easier to develop too, plus gave bethesda an excuse to not include levitation. EDIT: Like x23 mentioned, imagine a quest where you had to hold daedra off the walls with a bow. Or maybe you and a group of vampires are about to destroy a city. That would be cool if you had to climb the walls to invade. |

actually.... no Telvanni town has any walls... and most of them are spread out and nothing big except the tower... most of Vvardenfell's towns are open with no walls, or if they are present, more like small walls to separate but not necessarily protect ...
Redoran... well at least in Ald-ruhn I expect them to be building walls since they were just struck from Daedra and a sort of sense of the need for security must be going around.... Maltir Bal, the new town that the player can help make (part of rising up in Redoran) may have Redoran fort-walls like Aldruhyn will... Vivec City (I say canton by canton), parts of Ebonheart, and Balmora.... Dagon Fell is becoming more militaristic Nord so walls are being built as well as longhouses and maybe a good old hill fort.... Caldera... now I really dunno... but it would make sense for the Redoran to finish and reinforce the small old wall and make it larger and full to protect their recent reclaim of Caldera [/hr] however, if a place can run well without being an interior and can have realistic opening doors... that would be ideal |
