I say we make it a creature, thus avoiding all the problems associated with making it an NPC, making it talk etc. My plan was that they would communicate by making frog sounds, nothing the player could understand. This way we can make the body and face any shape we want.

aye, but idea means the mesh is already rigged and animtated for us (including speech). If nick_op can explain to me the necessessity of the "conformulator" then I'd definitely lean towards NPC, as this gives us more possible colour and face variation. And then a few unique pauldrons for the tribes...
Plus we don't want to write ourselves out of any possible side quests do we? (maybe an artefact that lets you understand them etc.) Edd

Quote:Originally posted by llamarangerscanti's Conformulator. It takes a head/helmet/hair mesh and generates the necessary files to make them work with the facegen system. In the case of head meshes, this is the .egm file (for all of the changes possible in facegen) and the .tri file (morphs for facial expressions and talking). Running the mesh through there shouldn't be a problem. You'll just have to try it and see how it functions afterwards. The potential problems are with the facial morphs - they may or may not turn out well. I'd recommend giving it a go - no downside to it. If it doesn't work you can either create all of the facial morphs by hand (probably wouldn't take that long, plus you can probably be pretty vague with a frog race), or go with the creature approach. I agree that the NPC approach would be far more flexible. Hope that helps. |

Great work, guys! I love the pot-belly development and agree about the head but wondered whether webbed feet would be a good move. I actually really like the claws on the original body although I'm not too fussed about that body mesh as it is now.
I particularly like the idea of an artifact that lets you communicate with them but I'm sure I wouldn't have any problems coming up with some decent frog sounds.

nick_op: I found this, which seems like a good idea, but I have some reservations, mostly about whether it can be done without replacing every body mesh in the game. Still its what I'm going to tailor the model towards (so if someone could check it out, as i currently don't have a working CS) i've attached the "tail.nif" thats needed, i.e. a full body mesh and the head (not conformulated yet) A few things maybe worth noting; I've made the model shorter than the average person (and lowered the head) but will this have an impact on eyes/mouth and teeth? Also, will the conformulator be necessary considering the mesh is made only by altering original meshes and no vertices etc. have been added, only manipulated? Edd EDIT: forgot attachment

Quote:Originally posted by llamarangerThat should work fine, but if you plan to use any sort of clothing/armour you'll have to make it specifically for this body mesh and you better be excellent at rigging. None of the other race's body meshes will be replaced using that method - after all, the new mesh goes in a new folder. Quote:i've attached the "tail.nif" thats needed, i.e. a full body mesh and the head (not conformulated yet)I'd advise against have the head mesh in the tail.nif - you'll not be able to conformulate it, therefore there'll be no way to adjust it in facegen and no facial animations. It will be rather hellish to rig otherwise, plus the head will not be in the correct place (that it, if you choose to seperate it as I advise above). If you've not changed the vertices of the head very much then perhaps the original .egm/.tri files will work with it, but I'd recommend running it through the conformulator as you'll probably get better results. |

I have finished the male paatru model and textures (which will probably also be used on the female model when it gets done).
In the end I went with the cuirass method (so each male of the species needs to wear paatruupperbody.nif as armour ). I left the feet and legs as standard for now, and the head is now at standard height. Would someone please d/l the files and check they in CS and ingame (this will require creating a new race .esp and such). I'd like to see some screens too if you'd be so kind (i hate having a rubbish compy.... hopefully getting a new laptop sometime in february though, stilla long way off ...) Textures are based on red-eyed tree frog for those interested download Edd
