If you're running 8GB then you must be running 64-bit, and TBH I know little about that. Try keeping task manager open with the process list open and see if the CS crashes at the same memory count: I know when I tried too big a region (er all of Elsweyr's worldspace: >130 cells square!) it ate about 1.3GB processing the textures then died quite quickly after that when the RAM ran out.

Now I've finished the real region generation, of course that particular view (from a test run) no longer exists - we'll have to make sure to find (or create) a similar vantage point for the real thing!
