Different for different Housese to break the monotony if we decide to make each house have the same Bonemold armor.
If you can't make your own skills in Oblivion then what skill will spear be under? blade or blunt? I noticed that Elven armor in Oblivion looked alot like Indoril accept for the helmet.Throwing weapons will be real bad ass I can see it now Your walking in a cave along with your warrior companisons silver stars ping through the air your companions fall one by one
blade, i believe thats where it was in daggerfall, there was no spear skill in that game either i don't think
the spear is a good skill... why it was taken out escapes sanity

I would say partly because combat is much more involved this time, and partly because skills are more elaborate and gives you perks as you get better at them, like new combat moves. So creating a weapon skill was probably much more work for Bethesda this time around because they would have to create a lot of new character animations. It's still a shame though.
And because they wanted more medieval-like type combat.
You can't go one-on-one with a spear, you know (unless it's a chivalry tournament). Big Grin

It was useless thats why its taken out why go with a spear when a longblade does more damage, varity is good but useless varity is bad.
Ok, not trying to be rude or anyting, but this topic is pointless. Spears are gone and there is nothing we can do about that until we get the game (or more specificly the CS) in our hands. Here is what VXSS (aka Wormgod) had to say about "left out" weapons:

My unofficial excuse for none of these weapon types.....

....hmmm, sorry, dont really have one.

I guess all I can say is, ah well. But, in all honesty, they were the most unpopular. As an animator, I preferred being able to spend more time on animations for characters with weapons that were most likely to be used. No sense in spending a 50/50 task timer on a bow AND a crossbow if I knew the bow would be used more. That way I could dedicate 100% of the task time to making a very quality bow animation. I dont expect anyone (except other animators) to agree with me, but on a development level, I prefer quality over quantity.

Just MY opinion. :-)

AH, there it is. Bethesda must listen to consumers and what they want. Understand, if Bethesda did that, they would probably be making a shooter or a Mario ripoff title.

Fact is, Bethesda is a private organisation. No public shares. The only people Bethesda MUST listen to are the investors. However, Bethesda does listen to the fanbase. There was a cry for a playable orc race and the addition of playable khajiits and argonains in Morrowind. They listened and that happened. Research is done before making any change to the game. These types of decisions are not made sitting the bathroom for 15 minutes with a magazine and a can of Glade. They are thought out quite a bit with pros and cons weighed. When something comes out, it is for a good reason. I understand that spears, crossbows, and throwing weapons are suspected of being pulled, but just know that there are reasons for cuts. The reasons for cuts usually mean that room needs to be made for something new or perhaps some technical reason.

And catering to a new market called consoles? No, not at all. Bethesda makes games on PC, for PC. Building a game alongside a console just means certain steps have to be made to keep it copatible for both. This alters nothing. I dont know what urban myth exists that says because a game is on console, it will sick on PC, but it it completely untrue. *cough*Battlespire*cough* was on PC only.... cant blame the (lack of) success of that title on a console. ;-)

I understand that no matter how much I say on the subject people will still trail on about cuts, additions, and purple horseshoes. Its part of the curse of being a dev.... being judged before the judges even get a chance to test drive your product. But thats ok, I smile anyways. Cause I get to play the game for hours and hours every day.... and you dont.... and I am having a TON of fun (and I know you will too, so I will get the last laugh).
Emphasis added by me.
Now can we just please get onto topic of our project. Like I said, if we want spears, we'll add them. But not until we get the game. No more disscussion of reason they were taken out. If you really want to disscuss that issue, head over to the official forums. :goodjob:
True.

you've never seen Hero have you? if you are truly that good with a spear you can fight one on one quite well, you just need space to maneuver...

but yeah, back to stuff that actually relates to what we are going to be working on... i'm a bit curious about a few things:

one, what "rank" will the wasp armor be? it's obviously stronger than chitin but by how much? is it stronger than chitins rival, netch leather?

two, about glass armor, won't that already be in oblivion? so if the oblivion version doesn't resemble the morrowind version is the vvardenfell veriosn going to be a simple reskin, or will it be a unique mesh?

last, just how many of our new armors and weapons are goign to be reskins? i know this is stupid to ask at this stage of the game, but should we probably get a rough idea down?
